In the News: Byrd Vis Lab Students Featured in JPUR!

Updated: Oct 11, 2018

Volume 8 of the Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research is officially published online and in print! The Fall 2018 Edition features a record number of abstracts from Polytechnic Undergraduate Researchers from the Byrd Data Visualization Lab and students in spring 2018 CGT 270 Data Visualization class. The 2018 Fall edition of the journal features abstracts from five Polytechnic Undergraduates who’s abstracts were accepted into the journal. For the first time in the history of JPUR, a Special Snapshot Section has been included titled, “Making a Case for Data Visualization at the Undergraduate Level.” The section opens with a summary by Dr. Vetria Byrd, followed by the abstracts of three students from CGT 270 Data Visualization Class, two Polytechnic OUR Scholars Recipients, and two undergraduate research scholars from the Purdue Statistical Living Learning Community.

For students in CGT270 the submission to JPUR was their first experience with submitting abstracts for consideration for publication, and their first research experience. Two students from the CGT 270 class were selected to participate in the inaugural semester of the 2017  OUR Scholars Program, their work is also featured in the Special Snapshot Section. All of the students featured in the Data Vis JPUR Special Snapshot Section were mentored by Dr. Vetria Byrd, Director of the Byrd Data Visualization Lab and developer and course master for CGT 270.

Students with accepted snapshots are encouraged to continue their work and submit a full paper for consideration to the journal.

If you see any of these students around the department or in the college congratulate them on getting their work published (in a Special Snapshot Section) and for distinguishing themselves as undergraduates with successful, citable, research experience!

For your convenience links to students abstracts are provided at the end of this blog post.
