About Dr. Byrd>
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Since joining Purdue University, Polytechnic Institute in Computer Graphics Technology Dr. Byrd has demonstrated a commitment to community engaged scholarship that involves multidisciplinary collaborative efforts, outreach, broadening participation and inclusion in data visualization. Dr. Byrd’s engagement activities exemplify the utilization of data visualization across research and social boundaries.
Dr. Byrd continues to work towards the development of a collaborative research space that will facilitate more engagement across disciplines. Evidence of the recognition of her craft by her colleagues (both internal and external to Purdue University) can be seen in the local, national and international requests for invited talks and workshops. Dr. Byrd’s nationally recognized workshop, Broadening Participation in Visualization (BPViz) provides another level of engagement and inclusion of underrepresented groups in data visualization.​

Short Courses and Workshops
June 26–July 02, 2016 | 2016 International High Performance Computing Summer School, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Invited short course, “Introduction to Scientific Visualization”
Dr. Byrd was invited to teach the short course, “Introduction to Scientific Visualization,” as part of the International High Performance Computing Summer School. In addition to teaching the course, Dr. Byrd mentored four students (international and US) participating in the program. Dr. Byrd was invited to teach after favorable reviews from 2015 student participants.
